WHEN FURNITURE MAKES YOU SICK Why Boltons Stock Australian-Made Lounges Modern furniture contains a surprising number of potentially toxic chemicals that have been linked with allergies, asthma and other health problems. For example, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACC) reported on Leather sofas supplied by two major Chinese companies, Likewise and Eurosofa which contained sachets of an anti-fungal chemical called di-methyl fumarate (DMF). They were inserted into the leather sofas and were designed to prevent moisture and mould whilst in transport. But it was found that when subjected to a warm environment, the DMF crystals in the sachets were evaporating into toxic gases which penetrated the sofas and passed through clothes onto the skin of the person sitting on the sofa where it created an allergic reaction. There is currently a lawsuit underway in the UK with over 1300 claimants seeking compensation.
