WHEN FURNITURE MAKES YOU SICK

Why Boltons Stock Australian-Made Lounges

Modern furniture contains a surprising number of potentially toxic chemicals that have been linked with allergies, asthma and other health problems.  For example, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACC) reported on Leather sofas supplied by two major Chinese companies, Likewise and Eurosofa which contained sachets of an anti-fungal chemical called di-methyl fumarate (DMF).  They were inserted into the leather sofas and were designed to prevent moisture and mould whilst in transport.  But it was found that when subjected to a warm environment, the DMF crystals in the sachets were evaporating into toxic gases which penetrated the sofas and passed through clothes onto the skin of the person sitting on the sofa where it created an allergic reaction.  There is currently a lawsuit underway in the UK with over 1300 claimants seeking compensation.  Gold Furnishings sought comments from some of Australia’s leading retailers about the problems and pitfalls associated with importing goods from China.

The reality is that anyone with $20,000 and a contact in China can be an importer of furniture from China,” said David Langworthy, CEO of Bev Marks Australia.

The simple fact is that the majority of importers have no understanding of the requirements and needs of Australian consumers and simply buy a product at the cheapest possible price.  It is inevitable that, at some time in the future, the British experience will happen to Australian consumers and our whole industry will pay the price, because the importer will certainly not.”

Here at Boltons we spend a great deal of time and effort sourcing Australian Made and Manufactured Lounges and Recliners.  You can be assured of the highest quality of materials and excellence of manufacture, and if there is ever a problem, the manufacturer will stand behind their product and their warranty.

So think carefully when purchasing your new lounge.  Support Australian manufactures and feel confident that your lounge is of the highest possible quality.
