Research reveals the positive impact of drama on a child’s physical,
emotional, social and cognitive development.
Each week students will be engaged in a variety of drama games and
activities, culminating in several performance opportunities during the year
including our Annual Concert and Presentation evenings.
Drama classes can benefit all
children in many ways, including:

self-confidence and self-esteem

work in cooperative groups

Develop empathy for
others

Development of
imagination and critical thinking.

Self Discipline: Drama
games and creative movement improve self-control.
·
Physical fitness:
Movement in drama improves flexibility, coordination, balance and control

Memory: rehearsing and
performing words, movements and cues.

Concentration: playing,
practicing and performing develop a sustained focus of mind, body and voice
which also helps in other school subjects and life.

Communication skills: drama enhances verbal and nonverbal expression of
ideas. It improves voice projection, articulation of words, fluency with
language and persuasive speeech.

Problem solving: improvisation fosters quick-thinking solutions, which
leads to greater adaptability in life.

Emotional outlet : play and drama games allow students to express a range of
emotions. Agression and tension are released in a safe, controlled
environment.

Relaxation– many drama activities reduce stress by releasing mental,
physical and emotional tension.
·
Fun: Drama brings play, humor and laughter to learning – this improves
motivation and reduces stress.

Age groups may
vary due to class numbers and abilities. Children may be placed in groups
outside the stated age groups where appropriate.
